Blog for July 17th
Due to the weather that disrupted the previous weeks race in Atlanta we were given a double feature night on week 7 of Thursday Thunder. First off we had to complete the week six feature race and for this they just gave us our starting position based on what we drew for the heat race that week. Well I ended up drawing for a fifth place starting spot in the week six makeup race. The race started good with all of us falling in line and minding our manners. I fell back one spot but that was all I lost the entire race. My car was very good, but I just spent too much time trying to get around a certain car. We pretty much ran a green flag race the whole way in the week six makeup race and I ended up finishing right where I started… fifth. I had been having such a bad string of races lately that the fifth place finish felt great to me. I was excited about how the car was working with me and I could not wait until the week seven race came around later on in the day.
Well for the week seven race we just drew for position and ran once again without running any heat races. I drew a nine and that had me starting fifth in our main event. I had a good starting position and what I felt like was going to be a fast car, but I never got to find out what the car was going to be like. On the start going off into turn one the third place guy was not very fast and kind of backed up the inside line: me being right behind him. So I stayed right on his tail and was going to turn under him coming off of the corner when all of a sudden my car started to push out to the outside line. I had my hands turned as hard left and I could get them but it just didn’t stop the car from going straight into a competitor of mine on the outside line. Needless to say I got some help from the car behind me and they pushed me to where I ended up. When I hit the car on the outside it tore the right front completely off of the car and I came to a halt at the exit of turn two. I was disgusted! Here I was feeling like I finally got things going back into the right direction and this happened to me. I didn’t even get a chance to try my Aaron’s Dream Machine which I just knew was going to be fast. However I know it was just one of those racing deals where an acordian effect took place. All I can say is we’ll get ‘em this Saturday at Lanier!
